What we offer
Community Mediation: Neighbour disputes, boundaries, noise, and the everyday friction of living close to people you didn’t choose. We help find agreements that let people go on living near each other without dread.
Workplace mediation: Tension between colleagues or teams, addressed before it costs you people, performance, or ends up as a formal grievance.
Commercial mediation: Disputes between organisations or business partners, resolved without the time and cost of going to court.
Co-parenting mediation: We help parents who are separated or separating find workable arrangements for their children, outside of court. Please note that we do not carry out MIAMs. If your situation needs a MIAM, we’ll point you toward a service that provides one. What we offer is a space to work out the practical, ongoing business of co-parenting.
Inter-generational mediation: Conflict between generations within a family or community, where the gap in perspective and experience needs someone in the middle to help translate.
School & Community dialogue circles: Facilitated group conversations for schools or community groups working through tension collectively, rather than person by person.
Faith-based mediation: Disputes shaped by faith or cultural context, where sensitivity to that context changes what a fair, workable conversation looks like.
Conflict coaching: One-to-one support for someone navigating a conflict who isn’t in a position for joint mediation, or where the other party can’t or won’t take part. We help you think through how to handle it, without requiring anyone else to be involved.
Community workshops
We believe that peacebuilding skills are crucial for building stronger and more cohesive communities. We have developed conflict resolution workshops for anyone dealing with conflict at home, at work or in their community. These workshops are free for Thanet residents, and are running at various locations throughout the year.
These workshops help people identify:
- What conflict is, how it starts and how it can escalate
- What are common emotions and responses to disagreements
- How you can prevent things from escalating
- How you can embrace curiosity to find out what’s going on
- How to practice active listening and clarify your understanding of what has been heard
- How to express feelings and needs effectively
- What things might be influencing responses to conflict
- How to develop skills that rebuild trust and restore relationships
A few common questions
Is mediation confidential?
We keep sessions confidential, with the standard exceptions around safeguarding — for example, if something raises a risk of harm to a child or adult.
What if we can’t reach an agreement?
Not every mediation ends in a formal agreement, and that’s alright. If you don’t reach one, you’re free to pursue other routes for resolving things. Many people still find the conversation itself worthwhile even without a signed agreement, but we won’t pretend that’s the same thing as reaching one.
Do we need to be in the same room?
Not if that won’t work for you. We offer shuttle mediation, where we go between separate rooms, as well as online sessions, alongside sitting in the same room together. Whatever feels safest and most workable for you.
