At Thanet Mediation Centre, we believe that meaningful resolution begins with understanding what lies beneath the conflict.
We work with people who still have to share a life. Neighbours who find it difficult to live next to each other, co-parents who want to find new ways to relate, business partners who need a way forward together. Most disputes carry something underneath them that’s never been said out loud. Our job is to make it safe enough for that to surface, and to help you build something workable from there.
What is mediation?
- Voluntary: Everyone involved chooses to take part — no one is forced to be there.
- Impartial: The mediator doesn’t take sides or make decisions for you.
- Confidential: What’s said in mediation stays in the room.
- Empowering: You control the outcome — not a judge, manager, or authority figure.
- Efficient: Often quicker and more cost-effective than formal complaints or court proceedings.
- Future-Focused: It’s about repairing relationships and finding a way forward, not just looking at the past.
How it works
- First contact. You or one party gets in touch. Sometimes we just need to talk it through with you; sometimes we'll need to speak to both sides first, to make sure your situation is suitable for mediation.
- Arranging a time. We find a time that works for everyone, usually with two mediators in the room. We meet at The Corner or the Cabin in Dane Valley, online, or — for workplaces — we can come to your offices.
- The mediation. You can send documents ahead if you'd like to, but you don't need to prepare anything. Just come ready to talk.
- What happens next. For some people, one session is enough. Others return shortly after for a follow-up, or we set a date for a further session as part of a plan.
Pricing
We believe mediation* should be accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances:
- Personal disputes: £50 per person (per two-hour session) for waged individuals and organisations. We offer a concessionary rate of £25 per person (per two-hour session) available for those receiving Universal Credit, disability benefits, and other forms of financial support
- Workplace & Employment Rate: £250 per person (per two-hour session) where the company pays for each participant
- Referring someone else's dispute: • Retainer of £500 per month (excl. VAT), for up to 4 referrals triaged and 2 mediations delivered per month, plus a workplace add-on at £750/month and included conflict resolution training. This is priced differently from the personal-dispute rate because referred cases often involve more than two parties, and because triage, coordination and reporting sit behind every referral.
- Conflict Resolution Training: free to organisations and community groups in East Kent.

Our pricing reflects our commitment to both fairness and sustainability, ensuring quality mediation remains accessible while valuing the professional expertise of our mediators.
*All mediation services include initial consultation, preparation work, the mediation session itself. Our mediators do not draft settlement agreements. Additional sessions may be available as required.
